Job Title: Artificial Intelligence Developer
Location: Hybrid – Remote in Middletown, PA (PTC Facilities along the Pennsylvania Turnpike).
About the Role:
The Artificial Intelligence Developer supports the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC). This role will design and implement machine learning (ML) and computer vision solutions powering large-scale, real-time, image-based transaction processing systems.

About the Role:
The Artificial Intelligence Developer supports the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC). This role will design and implement machine learning (ML) and computer vision solutions powering large-scale, real-time, image-based transaction processing systems.
Your Impact:
As a Artificial Intelligence Developer, you will:
- Design, implement, and optimize ML-based computer vision components, including object detection, image classification, and OCR pipelines using third-party and custom models.
- Develop production-ready Python code following strong object-oriented design and clean coding practices.
- Integrate ML models into distributed, message-driven architectures in collaboration with systems and DevOps team.
- Build, test, and deploy frameworks and scalable systems for OCR and image classification tasks.
- Implement automated training, evaluation, and feedback loops for continuous model improvement.
- Optimize ML components to meet near real-time processing needs in high-volume workflows.
- Created detailed technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, test plans, and lessons learned.
- Participate in enterprise-level system design discussion to ensure scalability and maintainability.
- Collaborate across technical and business teams, including database, API, and DevOps groups.
- Adhere to all PTC standards, policies, and procedures while delivering innovation and technical excellence.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in information systems, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent combination of experience and education).
- Strong, recent professional experience in Python development.
- Proficiency in object-oriented programming (OOP), design patterns, and testable architectures.
- Experience with OpenCV, pillow, and other image processing frameworks.
- Hands-on experience with PyTorch or TensorFlow.
- Experience implementing OCR solutions (e.g., Tesseract, PaddleOCR, EasyOCR, or customer models).
- Familiarity with object detection frameworks (YOLO, Faster R-CNN, SSD).
- Knowledge of vision-specific evaluation metrics and performance optimization.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 and Azure DevOps Testing Module.
Standout Qualifications:
- Software engineer’s first mindset focused on maintainable, high-quality code.
- Demonstrated experience delivering OCR, classification, and detection models in production systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of explaining technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience in distributed, multi-module environments integrating ML pipelines.
- Bonus skills: familiarity with SAP systems and ITIL/ITSM practices.
$115-$120/hr. (inclusive travel if within a 3-hour commute of Middletown, PA).
Onsite and Engagement Details:
- Primarily remote with onsite work 3-4 days per month in Middletown, PA.
- Quarterly onsite (1 week per quarter) at PTC facilities.
- Mandatory onsite orientation day in Middletown, PA to collect PTC-issued equipment (travel not reimbursed).
- May include post go-live support rotations (1-2 weeks onsite per rotation) during the initial six-month deployment phase.
