Job Title: Accounting/Finance Intern
Location: Remote


About the Role:
The Accounting/Finance Intern plays a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting general ledger activities, and assisting with financial reporting across multiple projects and clients. This internship offers hands-on experience in accounting, bookkeeping, and profit and loss (P&L) management for a mission-driven consulting firm working on Federal, State, and Commercial contracts.


Your Impact:
As a Accounting/Finance Intern, you will:
  • Assist with daily bookkeeping, including journal entries, reconciliations, and expense tracking.
  • Support preparation of monthly and quarterly financial statements and reports.
  • Help develop and monitor project budgets, ensuring compliance with contract and billing requirements.
  • Track and analyze profit and loss (P&L) performance across multiple projects.
  • Maintain accurate general ledger records and documents for audits and compliance reviews.
  • Assist with invoicing, accounts payable/receivable, and government billing processes.
  • Collaborate with project managers to forecast spending and manage cost allocations.
  • Contribute to developing financial models and reports to improve decision-making.
  • Support ongoing process improvements and strengthen internal financial controls.
These responsibilities are not meant to be all-inclusive; additional tasks may be assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Current student in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of basic accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • proficiency with Microsoft Excel and the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent attention to detail, analytical ability, and accuracy in data entry.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Standout Qualifications:
  • Hands-on experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks or similar platforms.
  • Understanding of P&L statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports.
  • Prior experience or coursework in government or project-based accounting.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines in a remote environment.

Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting and typing at a computer.
  • Consistent, reliable internet connection in a quiet workspace.
  • Frequent use of online communication tools including video conferencing, chat, and email.
  • Must be able to manage time effectively across different tasks in a remote setting.
  • Occasionally adjust focus between on-screen work and written documentation.
Pay Range:
$15.00/hour (funded under the SBII Internship Initiative)
Interns may work up to 100 hours during Year 1 through the Shippensburg University SBDC program. Additional hours may be available outside of the SBDC program as needed.
